LINA, "TUNISIAN GIRL"
Lina Ben Mhanni (May 22, 1983 – January 27, 2020)
As a human rights activist, journalist, and English professor at the university, Lina was known for her opposition to the internet censorship policy under the regime of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. She wrote on her blog, “Tunisian girl,” which was censored multiple times before the Tunisian revolution, and on the website Global Voices. She contributed to online media coverage of the Tunisian revolution by traveling to the city of Regueb to cover the events that sparked the revolution in Sidi Bouzid, and by publishing photos of protesters who were killed or injured by police bullets.
